Rating The 5 TV Shows On Our Rotation
Bob’s Burgers
There is no simpler joy than an episode of Bob’s Burgers. It’s joke after joke, giggle after giggle, nonstop puns, and endless light-hearted silliness. It’s a shining example of the fact that you can have a sitcom about a family without the humor coming from them hating each other. It’s a super low-stakes good time to put on any time of day (except for their financial stress — seriously how are they able to stay afloat?).

Great British Pottery Throwdown
Staying in the same lane of low stakes punny good vibes, Great British Pottery Throwdown has fully captured our attention. I love an art/talent-based competition show (Blown Away, Glow Up, America’s Next Top Model, etc.), but the problem is not all of them have as many seasons as I need to have constant new content. However, Great British Pottery Throwdown has a whopping 7 seasons, which means I can drag this shit out for over a year if I want to! Not only that, it’s confirmed that they’re making another one!! Who knows when it’ll make it over here, but it’s good to know that it’s on the way. Also, I just love British TV. So cheeky and so much less drama and unnecessary fighting than what American reality shows have. The only raw emotion is the one jduge with the bad hair cries whenever someone does a good job, which is weird at first and then endearing. It’s so lovely to watch lovely people create lovely things.

RuPaul’s Drag Race
I am a pretty diehard Drag Race fan, and with the constant syndication of multiple national and international spin-offs, there are almost always new episodes to watch. This sounds like it could be good, but if I can be honest *whispers* it’s starting to lose its sparkle. Now, I’m less excited to watch it and more feeling obligated to watch it. There is an element of Cocomelon-ness to it that I like when I don’t want to think and just want to look at bright colors and sparkly dresses. But I’m starting to catch on to what the producers are trying to make us think too easily, and I’ve disagreed with the last few winners (or at the least, been surprised they won). Idk i feel like maybe they need to take a longer break to keep the hype up instead of pumping out as much content as possible.
Rating: old episodes 9/10, new episodes 6/10
I Kissed A Girl
I’m not a huge fan of reality TV (except the aforementioned), but shoutout to our friends Bri and Mary for putting us on to I Kissed A Girl. It’s a queer woman dating show where the concept is they are paired up, and the first time they meet, they have to kiss, and then they all live in a house together and date, and they add new girls, and some girls go home, and the goal is to find love. I was sooooo physically cringed in the beginning because of how cheesy the kiss portion of it was. Like, they didn’t even get to talk — they just walked like a comically far distance around a pool to meet in the middle and kiss. But after that, it’s been so captivating to follow their lives. Again, probably because it’s British, there isn’t a lot of unnecessary drama, and I think they do a really good job of choosing diverse people who are also hot and interesting and genuinely cool. They also get into topics that aren’t usually talked about on TV, so all around the representation alone is dope. There are only 10 episodes, and we’re binging the last 3 episodes tonight so we can finally see who ends up together.

English Teacher
English Teacher is a new show on FX/Hulu written by and starring one of my fav people online Brian Jordan Alvarez. He plays a gay English high school teacher named Evan who is trying to navigate being a modern teacher and person in Austin, Texas. It may seem a little too similar to Abbott Elementary, but the only similarity they have is the school aspect. The fact that the kids are much older means they play a bigger role in the show and in Evan’s life, but it’s also a reflection of the difference between millennials and the new generation. The humor is really dry, which I love, and it talks about modern topics without me feeling like “LA LA LA I ALREADY HAVE TO HEAR ABOUT THIS IN REALITY I DON’T WANT TO SEE IT IN A SHOW.” Plus, the soundtrack goes so fucking hard it’s actually crazy.
